Kit Gill

Person
Biography
Kit Gill divided her time between a Fifth Avenue apartment and her 1840 farmhouse in Sandisfield for the past 40 years. Her greatest passion may have been opera (she was Vice President of the New York Wagner Society as well as a frequent visitor to the Bayreuth Festival), but she was also a devoted balletomane. In addition to attending Pillow performances, she was a daily visitor each year during the two-week Ballet Program in The School at Jacob’s Pillow. She enjoyed a close friendship with Program Director Anna-Marie Holmes and Music Director Ramona Pansegrau, and she organized a special evening for them to talk about the Ballet Program for local friends at the Sandisfield Arts Center in 2016. Born on Long Island in 1939, she enjoyed a successful career as a top model for Bill Blass in the 1960s. She was no stranger to tragedy, having lost her only child, Rob Liberman, to an Alaskan avalanche accident in 2013, and she battled cancer in her final two and a half years. But she also believed passionately in the transcendent power of the arts, and she lived her life to the fullest until March 20, 2017.
