Headdress worn by Ruth St. Denis as The Naga Queen in Angkor-Vat.

Item Details:
Very tall painted canvas headdress with wooden beads and rope detail. It is stuffed with newspaper from 1930. The fan shaped headdress has seven cobras heads arranged in a semi-circle. This piece was worn by St. Denis with a snakeskin print sarong that had a six foot padded tail (not in the collection). The headdress (and the work) were inspired by the bas-reliefs at the temple of Angkor Wat in Cambodia. Costume designed by Pearl Wheeler.
