The Story of Jacob's Pillow
The Story of Jacob’s Pillow is an informational booklet printed in 1969. The material provides historical overviews for distinct eras in the Pillow’s history up through publication: 1790-1931; 1931-1939; the “Transitional Years,” 1940-1941; “The Ted Shawn Theatre is Built,” 1942; and “Twenty-Eight Years of the Ted Shawn Theatre.” The Story of Jacob’s Pillow also includes brief profiles on Ted Shawn (cited as Founder/Director) and John Christian (cited as Executive Director). The booklet features listings of U.S. debuts by companies and individuals, world premieres and productions created at the Pillow, the 1969 Board of Directors, and Press quotes. The pamphlet also offers an extensive look of The School at Jacob’s Pillow. There are details on the student experience, campus life, and a listing of select distinguished faculty who have taught since 1941.
Several photographs accompany text. Photos include construction photos; pictures of companies and dancers who have performed at the Pillow; and photos from the school, including classes, faculty, student productions, and campus life. There is also a page dedicated to photos from the Golden Wedding celebration of Ruth St. Dennis and Ted Shawn held on August 13, 1964.
