In 2018, Jacob's Pillow celebrates the centenary of the birth of Smt. Balasaraswati, a pioneer and legend of Bharatanatyam. She has been central to shaping a timeless poetic ethos, which she generously shared with the West. Her years of solo performances and teaching in the U.S. began at Jacob's Pillow in 1962 and have left an indelible mark, inspiring generations of audiences and Bharatanatyam practitioners. It is Ragamala's great honor to have been asked by the Pillow to open our program with this solo work - an homage to the Divine Feminine - in honor of Smt.
