Black silk kimono worn by Ruth St. Denis in O-Mika.
Item Details:
Black silk kimono decorated with two elaborately embroidered birds (one extending across the back) and flowers around the bottom 1/4 (colored silk and lurex thread). The kimono is half lined in red cotton and half in red silk. The hem is padded. Three additional padded sections have been attached on top of one another in green, yellow, and pink. Three smaller padded rolls (in green, yellow, and purple) have been added to the collar and cuffs. This kimono was worn on occasion with an embroidered obi (C-013) and Red Kimono (C-062) and appears to date from the 1920s.
