Person
Biography
Miriam Golden was an original member of Ballet Theatre (now ABT) and, as such, was in residence at the Pillow throughout the summer of 1941. Born in Philadelphia as Miriam Goldstein in 1920, she began dancing with the Littlefield Ballet in her teens before moving on to Balanchine's Ballet Caravan. By 1944, she had settled in Los Angeles, where much of her remaining performance career was spent in Hollywood musicals such as Show Boat. She co-founded the Los Angeles Junior Ballet, which became the official school of John Clifford's Los Angeles Ballet in 1974. In a 2002 letter looking back on her Pillow experience, she wrote, "We had a great time working and studying and even hitching a ride to Pittsfield to collect our unemployment checks!" Miriam Golden died in Beverly Hills on September 30, 2010.
