Triangulating Euclid

Creation Date
2013
Description
The first two lines of Euclid’s Elements: “A point is that which has no parts. A line is length without breadth.”
Part 1: form
Part 2: illuminated detail
Part 3: the inherent drama of numbers

The inspiration for this work came from a rare 1648 edition of Euclid’s Elements of
Geometry, perhaps the most influential work in the history of mathematics. This 2015
collaboration brought together choreographers Brenda Way, KT Nelson, and Kate Weare.
The three set out to explore the distance between the three choreographers and between
the book, the dance concept, and the metaphor. They move from the formal elegance of
geometry to its human implication: from triangles to threesomes, from lines to connections,
from the page to the heart.
